Frequently Asked Questions
Who owns the Pregnancy Care Center?
The Pregnancy Care Center is owned by Pregnancy Care Center, Inc. a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation registered in the State of Florida. Our original date of incorporation was April 19, 1994 under the name “Mobile Pregnancy Unit, Inc.” We officially changed our name to Pregnancy Care Center, Inc. in January of 2007 to reflect our permanent location in Fort Pierce.
Are you affiliated with any church or group?
We are not affiliated with a specific church, and welcome volunteers, clients and supporters from all faith backgrounds. We are a Christian ministry affiliated with Heartbeat International, an organization that has been on the forefront of pregnancy care center ministry for over 30 years. Heartbeat provides resources, support and consultation to us.
Are there many women who choose adoption over abortion?
Unfortunately, no. It is a very long leap from abortion to adoption and it requires a tremendous amount of courage, support and generosity to make that leap. We do counsel in favor of adoption but see very limited success with it. Studies show that women view adoption as the least favorable pregnancy option believing that it makes them look like “bad mothers” for “giving away” the child.
Where do your clients live?
Our clients come to us from the surrounding counties of St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
How many of your clients are actually in crisis pregnancies?
Of the 1,000 plus clients we see in a year, approximately 80% of them are actually in crisis when they come to see us. The other 20% benefit from our services as well but are not in crisis specifically regarding the pregnancy.
How old are your clients?
For the current year, our clients range in age from 13 to 48. The majority are 17-20, and are single.
Do you give out birth control or condoms?
No, nor do we refer for it. We counsel a strong message of abstinence for our single clients and refer to Natural Family Planning classes for our married clients.
Do you charge for any of your services?
No, and we are committed to keeping all of our services available at no cost forever!
What kind of help can you offer a woman in a crisis pregnancy?
Most of our clients are seeking a pregnancy test, and education on pregnancy options. We provide this education during a counseling session, or if necessary, in several sessions. All women who test positive are also invited to have an ultrasound and participate in our Learn and Earn program which enables them to earn Baby Bucks that can then be spent in our Baby Boutique. The remaining services available to our clients include comprehensive referrals, Medicaid applications, material assistance, and follow-up counseling. We do see each client as an individual and are prepared to help each one in whatever ways are necessary.
